Topic: Should chemical castration be allowed?

Choice is something that is made, not forced. Especially in the cases of sex offenders, they made their own decisions of harassing and even raping the helpless victims. These kinds of sex offenders, such as rapists and child molesters, chose with their own will to commit sexual crimes. Therefore, they should take responsibilities for what they have chosen to do and for the good of the offenders, chemical castration should be allowed. Chemical castration is a very reasonable and probably the most efficient way of handling such sex offenders. Comparing to other harsh punishments that can be sentenced to the sex offenders, chemical castration is a very humane measure to handle the offenders. Also, it is considered as the most effective way of restraining the offenders from committing sexual crimes again.

Sex offenders are major criminals and the laws show them no mercy or leeway. They can be sentenced to spend the rest of their lives in prisons or be physically castrated, meaning that their reproductive ability will be lost forever. However, chemical castration is neither as harsh nor permanent as life imprisonment and physical castration. Chemical castration is reversible when treatment is discontinued and the offenders can live normally among other people without having to worry about their uncontrollable sexual desire. Some critics say that chemical castration is inhuman due to its effect of changing a human nature. However, sex offenders tend to continuously display abnormally strong sexual desire, so it is reasonable to sentence them with chemical castration in order to prevent any further sexual crimes.

Chemical castration is considered by over 60 percent of the medical experts as the most effective and the most ethical way to prevent the former sex offenders from repeating their past misdeeds. It is true that physical castration is the best way to restrain the sex offenders. However, the method itself is too harsh and the risk of castrating a suspect, convicted of false charge, is too high. Other lenient measures, such as electronic anklet and mental rehabilitation, were tried in the past, but they did not work out well due to the fact that the sexual desire was too extreme for the offenders to suppress. Chemical castration directly helps the offenders to control their sexual desire without permanently taking away their reproductive ability, so it is widely considered as a very effective and rather humane method to handle the aftermath of the former sex offenders.

Chemical castration should definitely be permitted as one of the punishments for the sex offenders due to its efficiency and ethical characteristics. Majority of the experts in the field of medical science agreed upon the good efficiency of chemical castration. Also, chemical castration allows the former offenders to blend in with others without many difficulties. Therefore, chemical castration would not only ensure the safety of the civilians, but also allow the offenders to live more stable lives.
